Why turn-based RPGs feel better on a phone than I expected
I used to think serious RPGs belonged on a console, and phones got the watered-down versions. Playing Ember Crown Saga changed my mind.
Turn-based combat suits a phone precisely because it doesn't need fast input. You think, you tap, you think again. That rhythm works whether you have ten minutes or an hour, and it survives being interrupted.
The games that get this right let you speed up animations and save mid-fight. The ones that don't become a chore the moment life gets in the way.
What I want from a mobile RPG now is depth I can engage with in bursts. Clever class systems and readable combat beat sprawling worlds I'll never have time to walk across.
